Formal
A general umbrella term used in the UK to describe processes and regulations for companies that are at various stages of insolvency - i.e. unable to pay their debts as they fall due.
Real-world Example
A UK retailer misses several supplier payments and can't cover payroll. Its directors file for Administration, appointing administrators to try to rescue the business or sell it off in pieces.
